ORDER OF THE PRESIDENT
Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan
on commemorating the 150th anniversary of Mirza Alakbar Sabir
Mirza Alakbar Sabir (Alakbar Haji Zeynalabdin oglu Tahirzade), Azerbaijan’s great poet and teacher, and the founder of the new school of literature in the history of our art and public thought, turns 150 in May 2012.
Continuing the bright traditions of our ancient poetry, Mirza Alakbar Sabir has gained a great fame as a master of word who has enriched it socially and ideologically, raising our literature to a qualitatively new level. The principal theme of the works by the talented poet, who was one of the leading representatives of the literary movement that had surrounded “Molla Nasreddin”, a satirical weekly, was the appeal to moral beauty, cultural upsurge and enlightenment.
On the occasion of the solemn celebration of the 150th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding poet-innovator, who contributed enormously to enriching the national cultural heritage, I hereby resolve as follows:
1. To task the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Azerbaijan, jointly with the Foreign Ministry of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and the National Academy of Science of Azerbaijan, with preparing and executing a plan of measures on the 150th anniversary of Mirza Alakbar Sabir, having considered proposals from the Writers Union of Azerbaijan.
2. To task the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan with resolving all the issues arising from the present Order.
Ilham Aliyev,
President of the Republic of Azerbaijan
